4,500+ Starbucks baristas across 150+ cities have shut down hundreds of stores, blockaded distribution centers, and disrupted corporate operations with a level of militance rarely seen in the U.S. labor movement. It was a firestorm of good trouble that caught management off guard and marked a high-water point for labor. Haymarket and In These Times are inviting Chicago Starbucks Workers United strike captains to a panel discussion. Together, we’ll unpack one of the most historic strike actions in modern labor history. This event is focused on the city-wide strike strategy carried out in Chicago. Panelists will map out how the strike was organized, how workers mobilized, and larger lessons learned.
This event will also mark the launch and celebration of our new Haymarket Originals oral history podcast, Heat the Ground Up: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/haymarket-originals-heat-the-ground-up/id1727208089
